There Once was a Bird in My Tree

There once was a bird in my tree,

and every morning he sang a song to me.

His song was so gentle yet so strong,

every word for which my heart had longed.

On some days I would join him,

to make harmony betwixt my chair and his limb.

Occasionally he’d inquire what song do I request,

and with his words, his love he would bequest.

Often he sang to me for hours,

his words so sweet and never were they sour.

Spring became summer and summer became fall,

his song was so pure his stature so tall.

Until one winters morning I was late to arise,

no love song to greet me, I was so surprised.

The winter grew colder the snow covered the lawn,

the darkness of night stayed long into dawn.

Empty of love the night of day would forlong,

my sweet morning song would forever be gone.

Year after year I listened for a song,

my sadness so deep I cannot remember for how long.

Until once upon rising a tune I did hear,

the lyrics rang out “I felt every tear.”

My song has returned yet not perched on a tree,

it comes from my soul and I sing it now for Thee!

Thank you for visiting.
