After I went to work for Impact Cares, I soon discovered I needed a desk. I was using the jackknife couch, the kitchen counter, and the bed to do paperwork and it was becoming difficult to declutter when I wasn’t working so…
I took out the sofa, cut back the slide (I know yikes!) and created a pull out for a game table and eating area. I did consult my boss before cutting back the slide. After sending him pictures he said go for it, but just know you may not be able to sell it after that kind of a remodel. Sell it! Fat chance!
So… trust me I was nervous, but I was all in now making this space work for me. I had given up the apartment, sold ALL my worldly treasures (no I did not put stuff in storage like a lot of people do) and gave away what I could not or did not want to sell! This is all I have now it has to be doable. Measure twice, cut once. Haha, I am pretty sure I measured a dozen times, taped it off, sat and looked at it, prayed over it, and slept on it – before I cut!
Again, so much more room and floorspace!
Remember: my slide is only 18inches deep! I did not put anything heavy in the slide portion so it would not pull on the track portion. Also, after a lot of trial and error, I went with a wood rail glued to the wall that allows the desk top to fit on it and under the window rail (tightly) with drawers underneath for stabilizing and I decided NOT to try and screw anything down! I strap it all down with bungies when I travel and it works great. If ever needed the desk top can be slid right out with no issues and a jack-knife couch reinstalled.
By the way the two chairs I purchased on Wayfair after finding the perfect size.
